Maternity Photographer Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the best time to get maternity pictures?
As a general rule, maternity photographers recommend scheduling your photo shoot soon after you’ve told your friends and family! This will give you and the photographer plenty of time to find the right day. Maternity pictures are usually taken at 7 to 9 months into pregnancy, when you’re showing.
Should I bring a lot of outfits to my maternity session?
It’s usually recommended that you bring two to four outfits to your maternity session. Always bring a backup outfit or two just in case you’re not feeling your main outfit.
What should I consider when planning maternity clothes?
The rule of thumb for photographers is to wear something that feels comfortable and makes you feel great. You’ll want a form-fitting top in a color other than black or white to show off your bump. Wear a supportive, well-fitting bra.
Where do we take the pictures?
Where we take photos depends on the type of session. When it comes to maternity and gender reveal sessions, outdoor pictures that let your photographer play with natural light are best. You can do it in a beautiful pasture, quaint park, the woods or even in a city.
Can my partner or child be in the photos?
Yes, of course! Photographers love incorporating mom, dad, and your other kids into sessions. Usually, you and dad will be the stars of the day, but it’s also important to get some family shots.
